Trade was brisk for quality bulls and top price of the day went to William and Margaret Nelson, Rosslea, County Fermanagh, for the July 2010 born Dripsey Super King ET son, Scribby Farms Banker. His dam, Cleenagh Naomi, was bought privately as a heifer from Adrian Richardson, Maguiresbridge, and has turned out to be a shrewd investment. She has produced two sets of twin bulls which topped at 5,200gns, and her five sons have sold to level at £3,654 each.
With a self replacing index of +25, Scribby Farms Banker sold to I McClintock from Trillick, County Tyrone. As the buyer of the top priced lot Mr McClintock received a £100 bonus sponsored by Eamon McCloskey of Woodcraft Kitchens, Kilrea.
The first bull into the salering, Longbeach Barney, realised 2,800gns for Sean Burns who had made the trip from Rathfriland in County Down. This March 2010 born entry was sired by Kilbride Farm Viduka, and is out of the home-bred Brinkton Brilliant daughter Longbeach Fanny 2nd. He boasts a Breedplan self replacing index of +36 – the highest in the catalogue – and was snapped up by David Johnston from Omagh, County Tyrone.
Sean Burns also realised 2,800gns for the July 2010 born Longbeach Brigadier (SRI+29) which sold to Ian Thompson from Tempo, County Fermanagh. Sired by Kilbride Farm Viduka, his dam is the Kilbride Farm Lennox daughter, Longbeach Princess.
The third and final lot to come under the hammer at 2,800gns was Slimero Bonanza ET consigned by Robert Weatherup from Larne, County Antrim. Born in June 2010 he is by the Cleenagh Flasher son, Omorga Volvo, and is bred from Slimero Regina – one of 15 cows in the long-established herd. This bull has a SRI of +28 and sold to B and I Porter from Loughgilly, County Armagh.
Next best at 2,600gns was the May 2010 born Sperrin View Brilliance brought out by William Ferguson, Stewartstown, County Tyrone. Sired by the Hillcrest Champion son, Curaheen Tyson, he is out of the home-bred Kilbride Farm Newry daughter, Sperrin View Tracey – one of 15 pedigree cows in the County Tyrone-based herd. Buyer was pedigree breeder Harold Stubbs who runs the Derrycallaghan herd at Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh.
Following close behind at 2,500gns was the March 2010 born Lummin Boris, brought out by the husband and wife team of David and Margaret Thompson, Ahoghill, County Antrim. Sired by Omorga Volvo, he is out of the home-bred Kilbride Farm Porter daughter, Lummin Velvet. He has a SRI of +29 and sold to Norman Johnston from Fivemiletown.
Also selling at 2,500gns was Cleenagh Banjo, a June 2010 born Dripsey Super King son bred by Adrian Richardson, Maguiresbridge, County Fermanagh. His dam is the Raceview Fawndoc daughter, Raceview Lady Countess – who has produced daughters to a top of 6,000gns.
Pedigree heifers reached a peak of 2,900gns, paid to David Hazelton, Dungannon, County Tyrone for the home-bred Ranfurly Kleeb 23rd. This May 2009 born heifer was sired by Seabank Flint, and is bred from the Milnafua Junior daughter, Sacombe Melody Kleeb. Scanned in-calf to Clonagh Tiger Gallant, she sold to commercial suckler herd owner Duncan McDowell from Newtownards, County Down.
Mr McDowell is establishing a pedigree Simmental herd to run alongside his Castlemount Beef Shorthorn herd. He also shelled out 2,000gns to secure Stralongford Bianca, a May 2010 born Bridgemount Vixon daughter bred by Andrew Hanna, Irvinestown, County Fermanagh.
The July 2010 born Derrycallaghan Bandy came under the hammer at 2,600gns for Harold Stubbs, Lisnaskea, and grandson Alan Burleigh, Florencecourt. Sired by Dripsey Super King, she is by the Dyfed Hello 97th daughter, Dema Fuchsia. The successful bidder was Gerard Morris from Omagh, County Tyrone.
A quality entry of commercial Simmental females met a ready market with in-calf heifers peaking at £1,480 twice, paid to D O’Hanlon, Dungannon. Mr O’Hanlon also realised £1,380, £1,350 and £1,220.
Other leading prices for in-calf heifers include: Ciaran Cullinan, £1,300; Malcolm Thom, Cookstown, £1,280; and Robert Miller, Moneymore, £1,280.
Maiden heifers achieved a top of £715 over weight, paid to JJ Hanna, Irvinestown, for a 485kgs heifer at £1,200 (247.4). Other leading prices include: William Ferguson, Stewartstown, £640 over weight for a 410kgs heifer at £1,050 (256.1); and £600 over weight for a 500kgs heifer at £1,100 (220); Ian Kee, £610 over weight for a 710kgs heifer at £1,320 (185.9).
